Phillips collection Strap Chair (Nuttapong Charoenkitivarokor)

Nuttapong Charoenkitivarokor developed this beautiful strap chair.  Having a piece featured in  “The Hunger Games” Gives this Thai designer notoriety and exposure that couldn’t be bought.   I saw the Colored Seat Belt material wrapped around a wooden and metal frame at the Fall Market.  I was not only struck by it’s beauty but comfort.  Taking a simple material and elevating it to artwork is much more difficult than taking a beautiful material and honoring it in form. My personal designs are often taking a Structured Maple or Oak and accenting it with Walnut.  Honoring Nature is in far contrast to the forms shown here and it makes me think about my path.  I will take this inspiration and try some less select materials and attempt to pull beauty from form.  You should see that posted here within the next week

The local Furniture design company Phillips will be one of my stops at Furniture Market in High Point Later this month

They also had this chair on display in the Greensboro Airport a while back – not sure if it’s still there, but it was beautiful!!! Excellent posting and I’m excited to read about your furniture market stops!!!
