Steelcase was one of the more interesting points of my NeoCon visit. The second chair I wanted to mention here from Steelcase was their student Node Chair. Pushing the idea of a student desk out the window and starting over brings classic form with modern color and active function. With the needs of the customer changing it is no longer satisfactory for us to come up with a pretty form but redesign the product itself. Classrooms are mobile, fluid and need to be adaptable, this seating helps fill that need. The sound of sliding chairs and reorganizing books is replaced by simple moving the chair. The seperate desk idea is replaced with the older chair/desk idea. Modern materials, form and technology gives this piece a place here on my blog.

Chair CardsThis blog was started to track the exceptional work by the students of UNCG in the Interior Architectural Design Program. Our History 221 and 222 classes use these cards to help familiarize us with historically significant design and designers. The initial purpose is for the students, however, it will remain for comments and use by anyone interested in design. - Brian - BSPeck@uncg.edu
