Emeco’s Navy 111 Chair (Feb 11 Dwell Magazine)

I posted a bit on Emeco’s Navy 111 chair and I noticed today when my Dwell Magazine came it had a wonderful piece on Page 66.  If you have the chance please pick one up and read this…  The short of the piece is that in conjunction with Coke they took 111 bottles and recycled them into this chair.  Everything is copied from the traditional Emeco Navy Chair right down to the weld. (copied in plastic of course)  The Aluminum Navy chair is one you might see in McDonalds, The UNCG food court, NCIS and CSI interrogation rooms, and countless other places.  It is simple lines with great form.  I have been concentrating this week on figuring out the differences between Shaker, Craftsman, Arts & Crafts, Mission and Prairie styles and I believe this chair fits well into the conversation.  As designers we look to the past to project our art onto the future.  Obviously Emeco has done a wonderful job with this one.
