Cantilever Chair

The Cantilever Chair

The International Design Museum in Munich, Germany has a permanent exhibit on the Cantilever Chair.  There are so many versions of this chair, as seen from the picture above.  The Museum’s website describes the chair as follows:

“The cantilever chair was the epitome of modern design in the twenties of the 20th Century. Initially developed on the basis of the bending of the steel tube technology the principle of the levitating resilient seat was transferred to chairs made of wood and plastic. The cantilever chairs reflect the design ideals of their time as well as their construction reflects the technologies of their time.”

Can you pick out a familiar one in this picture? (hint: it was designed by a famous architect….)
